How to choose pressure washer parts
Match the connection before anything else
Consumer machines use one of a small number of fittings: M22 (in 14mm and 15mm variants — they are not interchangeable), 3/8" quick connect, and 1/4" quick connect at the gun end. Check what's on your machine before ordering. An adapter kit is the cheap insurance if you're unsure or own more than one machine.
Hose pressure rating and length
The hose must be rated above your machine's output, with headroom. A 4000 PSI wire-braided hose suits any consumer unit and most prosumer ones. Longer hoses cost you a little pressure at the gun but save far more time than they cost — 25ft is the practical minimum for a driveway or a car.
Nozzle tips by spray angle
Colour coding is standard across brands: red is 0° (a pencil jet, rarely the right tool), yellow 15°, green 25°, white 40°, and black is the low-pressure soap tip. Start wide and only step down if the surface can take it — 25° handles most concrete and siding work safely.
The parts that fail first
O-rings, every time. They're inexpensive, they perish, and a worn one turns a good coupler into a leak. Keeping a pack on hand costs less than one replacement fitting.

What PSI do I need?
1,500–2,000 PSI covers cars, patio furniture and vinyl siding. 2,500–3,000 handles concrete, brick and driveways. Higher isn't automatically better — too much pressure will fuzz softwood decking and strip mortar.
Why is my pressure washer losing pressure?
Check in this order: a clogged nozzle tip, a blocked inlet filter, a kinked or undersized supply hose, then a worn O-ring letting air into the line. A sediment filter on the inlet prevents most of these.
Can I use my garden hose instead?
Not for the same jobs. Household hose pressure tops out around 80 PSI; a consumer pressure washer runs 1,500 to 3,000. Different tool, different task.
What is a sewer jetter kit for?
Clearing drains. A long thin hose feeds into the pipe and a rear-facing nozzle pulls itself along while flushing debris back out. It works with your existing pressure washer.
